The Aberdeen Research Consortium (ARC)

was established in 1993 to foster collaboration between the two Aberdeen Universities and the local Research Institutes: Rowett Research Institute, Macaulay Land Use Research Institute, Fisheries Research Services, Scottish Agricultural College and Institute of Terrestrial Ecology.

Following a review of its activities, with support from Scottish Enterprise Grampian, ARC was re-launched in 1999 and a new strategy for the ARC was adopted by the ARC Board, which comprises the Heads of all of the constituent institutions. A Research Director was appointed and funding was provided for the establishment of several ARC Research Units, providing a focus for joint research initiatives.
